It’s Not Your Party

Someone is leaving your organization.  It is time for them to go.  Retirement, new job, or just moving on.

They have spent 30 years or 2 years working to meet the goals of the organization.  Showing up, producing, shipping.

They are compensated at the agreed upon amount.  Recognized for individual and group achievements along the way.

Inevitably, when it is time to say goodbye, there is always a significant discrepancy between the level of one person’s send-off over another.

Humans are human after all.  People should be honored for their contributions and commitment. That’s the idea.

The fact that a send-off has been planned gives people in the organization comfort that contributions and commitment are indeed recognized and appreciated.

The level of send-off given to various individuals in the group sends a message to everyone else about their own value.

Be careful that the level of goodbye isn’t more about how well you liked them.
